Beyond the Classroom

Want to know more about Beyond the Classroom courses? Well, you are in the right place. Trinity Beyond the Classroom courses are designed to accommodate students with complicated academic programs, students who do not want to study abroad for a summer or semester, or students who just don't want to be away from home for so long.

So what is a Beyond the Classroom course exactly?
It is a regular Trinity course offered during the Spring or Fall semester, but there will be a short one or two week study abroad component.  It is sometimes referred to as a Trinity faculty-led course or BtC, but in the end it is all the same. The study abroad component might be before the semester starts, during the semester or after the semester ends.

Here are a few examples:
  • Sport in England - Spring Course, the course will travel to London over the Winter Break.
  • Trinity in Cuba - Spring Course, the course will travel to Cuba during Spring Break.
  • Global City Berlin - Spring Course, the course will travel to Berlin in the last two weeks of May
Are Beyond the Classroom courses competitive?
Yes! Beyond the Classroom courses fill up quickly so we encourage students to apply as soon as possible!

How much does a Beyond the Program course cost?
The cost will largely depend on program length and location.  For example, the Trinity in Cuba program will cost less than Global City Berlin, since flights to Cuba are less expensive than flying to Germany and the duration of the program in Cuba is one week instead of two.  Overall, Trinity Study Abroad will do everything we can to help keep costs down for you.

Can I apply for a grant to help with the program costs?
Yes!  We encourage all students who qualify for financial need to apply for a grant. There are many grants available and we hope to add even more!  Check out our grants page here to learn more about the grants you can apply for.

Can I use my Trinity Institutional Aid, State Aid, Federal Air, VA Benefits, Loans, etc.
Yes! Since the course is part of your normal Fall or Spring course load, the cost of the course will be added on to you Trinity eBill for that term. Depending on your financial situation, you may have more funds available to you.  Some students who have more financial need have discovered that their grants and aid from Trinity will help offset the costs of the course.

How does airfare work?
All students who study abroad on a Trinity Beyond the Classroom course or during the summer will either receive a flight voucher to help with the cost of airfare or the course/program will have a group flight. Why did we do this?  This is to allow for students with financial need to have most of the cost of the airfare paid without going into their own pockets and it will allow Trinity to negotiate for lower airfare. For example, our Trinity in Cuba program has a group rate to get to Cuba, which will help out everyone.  The Trinity Study Abroad Office will give you more details on the flight process when it is time.
