OPT Reporting

OPT students have reporting obligations. All students must report any change of residential address, legal name, telephone number, email address, and interruptions of employment within 10 days.

When your OPT is approved, SEVP will email (from SEVP@ice.dhs.gov) you instructions about how to set up your account and enter data. You should set up your account upon receipt of the email. Access for setting up the account expires 31 days after receipt of the email. If you have trouble logging into the SEVP Portal, please contact ISSS (isss@trinity.edu).

You should enter the following via SEVIS Portal:

  • Legal name change
  • Change of residential address
  • Personal phone number (cell preferred)
  • Email address (non-Trinity)
  • Name, address, and contact information of each employer
  • Supervisor contact information
  • Employment start and end date for each employer
  • Edit employer information – Update employer information when data in any field changes – Never replace existing employer information with new employer information
  • Explain how your employment is related to your major(s)
You must report this to ISSS directly: Interruptions in employment - start and end date of unemployment (Note: A maximum of 90 days of unemployment is allowed during the entire 12-month OPT period. Unemployment is not counted for periods of up to 10 days in between jobs). In order to avoid accumulating unlawful presence in the U.S., you may leave the U.S. prior to the 90 days of unemployment, transfer to a new academic program or seek assistance from a Board Certified Immigration Attorney about other options.
