CPT Update

This program should be used by students who already have CPT authorization and find themselves in the following situations. SEVIS functionality limits how much and when ISSS can edit a CPT authorization after it has been processed. This TU International Portal allows students to request a wide variety of edits to their CPT authorization, but submitting this program is not a guarantee that ISSS will be able to fully process the request. The most important SEVIS functionality and timing limitations are that (1) ISSS cannot edit any of the CPT information in SEVIS after the CPT end date has passed and (2) beginning on the CPT start date entered in SEVIS, ISSS cannot make any further edits to the CPT start date and it is no longer possible to fully cancel the CPT in SEVIS.

  • If you are currently authorized for CPT and want to extend your CPT authorization to a date that is prior to the 1st class day of the following academic term.
  • If you are currently authorized for CPT and need to report a change to your employment location.
  • If you are currently authorized for CPT and need to report a change either from full-time to part-time employment or from part-time to full-time employment. If you are changing from part-time to full-time employment, DO NOT begin working full-time until your request has been approved by ISS.
  • If you are currently authorized for CPT, you will be ending your CPT employment prior to the authorized end date, and you would like ISS to update the CPT end date in SEVIS.
  • If you have received CPT authorization and your CPT employment opportunity has ended before it started (i.e. you did not work for the employer at all).
  • If you have received CPT authorization and your CPT employment start date has changed. If your CPT will start later than was originally approved, this is not a violation and does not need to be reported unless you want ISS to try to reduce the length of the CPT authorization that appears in SEVIS (remember, it may no longer be possible to make this edit). If you want your CPT to start earlier than was originally approved, you must obtain the authorization from ISS to begin the CPT early. Beginning CPT employment prior to the authorized start date in SEVIS is a status violation. Due to timing and SEVIS functionality, it may not be possible to edit the granted CPT start date.
  • If you have received CPT authorization, you want to add an additional CPT employer, and you plan to work for multiple employers during overlapping segments of CPT authorization within the same academic term. You are not permitted to begin employment with the new employer until the additional CPT authorization has been processed by ISS.
  • If you have received CPT authorization, the CPT authorization has not yet expired, and you need to make a change to the course(s) or credit(s) applicable to the CPT authorization.
All items must be submitted before ISSS will process your request.
