Undergraduate research is central to Trinity University's Mission and Values. At Trinity, undergraduate students work directly with faculty members in innovative research. Students co-author papers that are published in leading academic journals, and give presentations at national conferences.

How can I do research abroad?
We get this question often. It depends on your major, research interest and many other factors such as your university status (First-Year to Senior) or even your relationship with TU faculty. There are a couple places you can start.

  1. We recommend that if you are interested in doing research over the summer, please start with the Office of Experiential Learning. They have links to different summer awards available on their website, such as the Mellon link listed below.  Some of the awards could possibly be used for expenses related to research abroad such as airfare, hotel, local transportation and meals.  You will need to investigate the various opportunities to see which ones will apply to international research.

  2. Trinity faculty have their own research interests which take them abroad. Every summer TU faculty travel abroad to do their research and depending on the faculty member/ research topic, students sometimes join them.  We encourage students to reach out to faculty in their department early on.

Can I do research abroad on my own or outside of Trinity?
Yes, you can always go abroad on your own to do research, but if you receive any funds from Trinity or if you join a TU faculty member abroad your travel must first be approved by the Study Abroad Office. Research abroad and study abroad are not the same; study abroad meets different learning outcomes.
